Smart Governance for Youth Involvement in Climate Action

SG4Y-CLIMATE brings young people, municipalities, NGOs and academia together around smarter participation in climate action.

Overview

Smart governance for youth in climate action

The SG4Y-CLIMATE project is implemented under the Interreg VI-B NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme, a European Union initiative designed to strengthen cooperation among countries in the Black Sea region. The project focuses on fostering trust, resilience, and collaboration through cross-border partnerships of Istanbul Nisantasi University, ALDA Moldova, Galati Municipality, and Tekirdag Metropolitan Municipality that address shared challenges within 18 months. The SG4Y-CLIMATE project contributes to the programme's objective of building mutual trust by promoting people-to-people engagement, particularly between youth and local authorities. The project recognizes that climate change is inherently transnational; environmental risks such as floods, droughts, and biodiversity loss do not respect borders. Therefore, effective solutions require coordinated governance approaches and shared knowledge across countries. The project supports initiatives that combine innovation, participation, and institutional capacity building. The SG4Y-CLIMATE project aligns with this vision by introducing a smart governance approach that integrates digital tools, participatory mechanisms, and artificial intelligence to improve decision-making processes. Let's create smart governance for the youth!

The Interreg programmes are among the European Union's key instruments for promoting territorial cooperation, designed to strengthen economic, social, and environmental cohesion across borders. By supporting collaborative initiatives between regions and countries, Interreg aims to address shared challenges that cannot be effectively solved at the national level alone. These programmes operate under the broader framework of the EU's Cohesion Policy, emphasizing solidarity, balanced development, and mutual trust among participating regions. Interreg VI-B, under which the NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme operates, focuses specifically on transnational cooperation. It brings together countries from the Black Sea region to jointly address complex, interconnected issues such as climate change, environmental degradation, and socio-economic disparities. Interreg is a platform for cooperation, experimentation, and long-term impact. With its contributions to building more integrated, inclusive, and resilient regions across Europe and its neighboring areas, a foreseeable future is much more possible than ever. This project is supported by the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme and co-financed by the European Union, with a total budget of €548,716.33.
